"Flies for the rsie" on a natural picturesque water.

It is indeed the perfect water for a natural selection so put away your "Christmas Trees" and use flies for the rise. Try the first of our big four flies:

  • Buzzers (Black Quill, Bloodworm)
  • Sedges (Sedgehog)

Like Lechlade these flies work particularly well. Fished "suspended" the Buzzer is a deadly weapon. If you're feeling barve use two or three Buzzers on the same line fished under an indicator. Let the flies simply sit in the water and drift with the wind. The sedge can be used as the sight indicator (Kiwi style) or used as a dry fly.

If the dry fly is ineffective on an evening rise strip the sedgehog across the surface and see the rewards!

  • Damsel (Maribou tail)
  • Montana (Black and Green)..."Other colours work too"

If the thought of fishing traditional flies fills you with trepidation these two flies will do the deed. Best fished on a long leader, 15-20ft, with a floating line and a slow yet "sparky" retreive. A deadly duo for those colder cloudy days.

Don't be alarmed with what may seem like a short selection. To ease your mind here are four more deadly flies that will get the job done:

  • CDC Buzzer.
  • Klinkhammer

Sight your fish and cast! A delicate approach with these two will induce a hard hit. Dress the flies with gink and the nylon with Leda Sink for best effect. If a breeze is blowing leave the fly static, if the day is calm twitch the fly gently to entice the fish to feed.

  • White Cat
  • Nomad (Black and Green)

Unfortunately a trip to Bushyleaze would not be complete without these two in your fly box. They can be fished any way you like, however a floating line with a long leader, 15-20ft, and a once again "sparky" retrieve will bring a fish to your fly.

If the picturesque scenery and the evening sunset is your idea of fish heaven then Bushyleaze is your place. Gin clear water supports hard fighting fish that will test you to your limit. Don't be fooled by the beautiful scenery as on a windy day only the brave will survive. Don't be put off! Have a cup of tea, put on a sink tip and find a quiet bay. A pleasurable way to spend a day or an evening surrounded by nature in the peace and quiet of the Cotswolds.
